CAERPHILLY COUNCIL STAFF FIT FITNESS INTO THEIR WORKDAY
10 Aug 2006
Information on the new physical activity sessions and existing walking and jogging sessions is being included in payslips to raise awareness of the countless opportunities on offer.
The Sports Council for Wales recognises that the workplace has the power to improve physical activity levels which is why it is urging more workplaces to deliver active opportunities to their employees.
In line with Welsh Assembly’s Climbing Higher strategy, by 2025 the Sports Council wants to give "all public sector employees and three quarters of all other employees’ access to sport and physical activity facilities, at or within a 10 minute walk."
They have set aside funds to help businesses – both from the public and private sector – implement the changes. Funds will subsidize a proportion of project costs, but to ensure long term success and sustainability, employer commitment and employee participation is paramount. This may be through direct funding or investment of time and resource.
