MY BONES ARE TOO BIG FOR MY SKIN!

In our heart of hearts, we probably all know how beneficial physical activity is for our health and general well being. So why is it that all too often our good intentions to lead healthier lifestyles fall by the way-side? Are we a nation of wallflowers unable to enjoy a bit of healthy exhibitionism when the opportunity arises? Will we always view keeping fit as a chore?

One of the main reasons we should all be, and stay, physically active is for our health. No matter what our current health concern is - be it high blood pressure, excess weight or heart disease - regular physical activity is without a doubt the key to a long and healthy life.

And while it is wholly unrealistic to go in search of the fitness levels achieved by elite athletes, adding a little physical activity into your day is not! If you have been struggling to get in shape then it’s time to ditch the excuses that have held you back and face facts.

Just 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise five days a week is all you need to achieve that healthy lifestyle. That equates to just 1.5 per cent of the total time in a seven-day week! The 30 minutes can even be split up into smaller chunks, with 3 x 10 minute sessions or 2 x 15 minute sessions – which can be just as effective.

The evidence is growing and is more convincing than ever. People of all ages who are generally inactive can improve their health and well-being by becoming active on a regular basis.
