A leg of the 2007 Corus Elite Series, a three race series that attracts athletes from across the UK and the world, takes place in Parc Bryn Bach, Tredegar on 9 June.

Triathlon is the UK’s fastest growing sport, combining swimming, running and cycling. Wales hosts a strong squad of world ranked triathletes who regularly achieve international success, including Helen Tucker, Andrea Whitcome and Mark Jenkins.

The Parc Bryn Bach race will begin with a 1500m swim in Bryn Bach Lake, followed by a fast 40km bike leg on the park’s closed road cycle circuit. Competitors will finish with a flat 10km run around the perimeter of the lake. The race will also double up as the British Elite Triathlon Championships.

Helen Tucker (23), the British Triathlon Champion, who is from Bridgend, said "I am delighted the Corus Elite Triathlon Series is coming to Wales and that I will be able to defend my British title in front of a home crowd. I got into Triathlon about age 16, when the Welsh triathlon coach approached our swim club and asked if any of us would like to try the sport. I got great support and coaching and have managed to make the podium in World Cup races as well as becoming the British senior champion. I am really looking forward to racing in Parc Bryn Bach, the event should be awesome with so many leading British and overseas triathletes intending to compete."
