Bridgend’s 5 x 60 officers have come together as a team to organise a Dance Extravaganza event.5x60 Logo

The inaugural 5 x 60 Dance Competition will be held on Thursday 17th January 2008 at Porthcawl Pavilion.

British Hip Hop Champions JukeBox will open and close the show and various dance groups will also be on hand to lend their expert skills to budding dancers at the event.

Since its launch in October 2006, the Welsh Assembly Government’s £7.6million 5x60 scheme – which is managed by the Sports Council for Wales – has successfully helped to transform the playing fields and sports halls of secondary schools into hubs of bustling activity from daybreak to nightfall.

During year one, thirty-nine schools were involved in the programme. And as the bell tolled on the start of the new 2007/2008 term, a further 86 schools hopped on board. Some 4100 activity sessions took place in the first 39 schools over the course of last year involving 18,500 participants.

The ultimate aim is to encourage those who do not take part in sport to dust off their trainers and get active. When pupils are faced with barriers to inactivity, 5x60 officers are on hand to listen to concerns and to help overcome any hurdles.

And 5x60 Officers from six secondary schools in Bridgend - Bryntirion, Brynteg, Cynffig, Maesteg, Pencoed and Ynysawdre – have all come together to demonstrate how the scheme is making a real difference to how sport and physical activity is delivered in the authority.

A special matinee performance will also be held on the afternoon of the 17th which will be attended by local primary school children. This performance will begin at 1.00pm.

Doors open at 6.30pm and we tickets will go on general sale to the public on the door at £3.00 for adults and £1.50 Children.
