Lillian Evans – putting faddy diets behind her
At her heaviest Lillian Evan topped the scales at 25 stone and was a dress size 30. She knew a lifestyle turnaround was in order.
With the help of Fit Together – an initiative aimed at increasing physical activity levels in the workplace – Lillian has been turning things around.
"When I made the decision to lose weight it wasn’t anything to do with vanity or fitting into a smaller dress size, it was more for health reasons.
"I’ve been overweight all my life, but I found that as I was getting older everyday things were becoming more difficult.
"I realised it was time I started looking after my health and made the commitment to losing weight once and for all. I put faddy diets behind me and started to eat sensibly and healthily … and it worked! Although weight loss was slow, it was steady.
"I also realised that diet alone wasn’t the answer and once my weight started to come down I began walking – which I used to avoid at all costs. I bought a pedometer and made it my mission to notch up 10,000 steps a day.
"I have a very desk-bound job and spend a lot of time in my office so the Fit Together organised lunchtime walks at Caerphilly were a massive help. The more I was walking, the more I wanted to walk. I was also getting fitter, which gave me the confidence to try new things. I took up line dancing, started swimming with my grandchildren and dancing at the social club.
"I’ve now lost just over nine stone, which – together with regular exercise – has made a massive difference to my everyday life. I’ve got a lot more energy and can move about without getting breathless. I also feel so much better in myself and enjoy going out and making the most of life."
