Aerobics brings a healthy option to Abermule
Women of Abermule in Powys knew just how physical activity would enrich their lives. But there were no local opportunities to help them on the road to fitness.
The local Community Centre approached the Sports Council to help secure a Community Chest grant, helping residents to become more physically active with weekly aerobics classes.
The grant helped to cover coaching costs, equipment and publicity for an initial 20-week pilot. After appointing a class instructor, the centre used the funding to buy aerobic equipment such as mats, weights, stretch bands and a stereo system.
With a little help from the Sports Council, the Community Centre has become the venue for a regular and active group of 25 women. And the classes have grown so much in popularity that the scheme has become self-sufficient.
