A new challenge in Snowdonia
Snowdonia’s Parc Padarn has something new to offer visitors, thanks to the Sports Council for Wales.
The tourist trap at the base of Snowdonia National Park already features a boating lake and a network of trails that draw visitors from all over the world. But the local authority felt it was time to expand the number of visitors and increase their leisure options with a fun, family-led programme of orienteering.
Park managers approached the Sports Council for support, and were awarded a £749 Community Chest grant to cover the cost of maps, signage and leaflets. Local residents in Llanberis are now being encouraged to get out and get fit, and many are enjoying the good health that comes with their new doorstep facility.
The orienteering course can be adapted to cater for varying levels of physical and technical proficiency. This flexibility allows the park to target families who want a healthy, challenging option – something strenuous, but less of a challenge than climbing Wales’ highest peak!
