Anyone for tennis in Caersws?
Powys could become the new breeding ground for tennis, thanks to the efforts of a dynamic local club. And a little help from the Sports Council for Wales.
Caersws Tennis Club is making the sport accessible to people of all ages in a bid to encourage locals to be more active and let young people know that ‘Tennis is for All’.
The club saw the chance to break the perception of tennis as an elitist sport by getting existing members to share their skills with absolute beginners.
They also identified opportunities to develop healthy links with local schools and community groups, encouraging them to take advantage of the club’s floodlights all year round.
With the support of a Community Chest grant from the Sports Council, the club is now well on the way to achieving its aims - with the funding also helping to train club members as tennis leaders.
And with a stream of fresh initiatives, the club is continuing to attract new members. Open days and evenings, introductory coaching sessions and family activity days have all helped local families get together - and team up for better health.
