A former business man, John, who now coaches at the local football academy, received the award in recognition of his work with the Sports Council for Wales' Dragon Sport programme on Anglesey. He has volunteered with Amlwch football club for over 13 year, and since 2004 has been running football sessions for young people with special needs.

The awards recognise the achievements of adults in Wales who have improved their livers and the lives of others through continued learning.

On receiving the Sport Learner Award John said: "I am delighted to have received this recognition. My work with Dragon Sports has meant that I have had the opportunity to develop my skills along the way, and hopefully made a difference to the lives of some of the young people I have worked with."

John Pritchard travelled to Cardiff to pick up his trophy - sponsored by the Sports Council for Wales - from ITV Wales sports presenter Rhodri Davies and Chief Executive of the Sports Council for Wales, Dr. Huw Jones.

Niace Dysgu Cymru is responsible for promoting and facilitating adult learning in Wales. The awards form part of Adult Learners' Week, a programme of events designed to promote adult learning.
