MINISTER JOINS IN THE FUN AT URDD EISTEDDFOD
2 Jun 2006
During his visit to the Urdd Eisteddfod in Ruthin Sports Minister Alun Pugh joined in the fun in the sports arena by taking part in a training session with Urdd members and players from the Llanelli Scarlets rugby team.
The session was organised by the Sports Council of Wales - who are sponsoring the sports arena on the Eisteddfod field – and the Urdd who have come together to organise a full programme of physical activity throughout the week.
Alun Pugh said: " As the Minister with responsibility for sport as well as the Welsh language, I'm pleased to see more opportunities for children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity through the medium of Welsh.
In partnership with the Wales Sports Alliance and the Welsh Language Board, the Sports Council of Wales has developed a development plan to create more opportunities for people to take part in sport and training through the medium of Welsh.
During his visit to the sports arena, the Minister also presented a trophy to Rhyl Girls' Basketball team who were recently crowned Welsh Regional Champions as well as winners of the Deeside League.
Through Lottery funding, the Sports Council for Wales employed coordinator Bill Hebner for this major social inclusion project in the heart of West Rhyl and it has exceeded all expectations.
