LOTTERY CASH INJECTIONS CONTINUE TO HELP WELSH COMMUNITIES RISE TO NATIONAL HEALTH CHALLENGE

The Welsh Assembly Government has led the way through the publication of the sport and physical activity strategy, ‘Climbing Higher' which is designed to encourage more people to participate in sport and active recreation.

The Community Chest scheme is further confirmation of how Sports Council Wales is responding to this challenge by helping to provide the opportunities needed to encourage more people to take part in 30 minutes of physical activity, five times a week.

EXAMPLES OF PAST COMMUNITY CHEST PROJECTS

LLANELLI SOSPAN ROAD RUNNERS

In a scheme designed to encourage more people to use the natural environment, the Sospan Road Runners club received £738 of Community Chest funding to set up a walking and running club in the area.

The funding was used to provide six group leaders with the necessary qualifications, first aid training, first aid kits and reflective vests.
