DRAGON CAUGHT IN NET
12 May 2005
Need the lo-down on how to tempt your children off the sofa? Well, the information is now at your fingertips, thanks to a new website which offers innovative ideas to get youngsters exercising.
The Sports Council for Wales Dragon Sport programme has launched a website – www.dragonsport.co.uk - which offers handy hints for parents and teachers to keep children amused and active.
It even provides fun rainy day options and stories from sporting heroes about how they got to the top.
With regular prizes on offer, the Sports Council for Wales hopes that the new site will build on the success of the Dragon Sport scheme which is exceeding all expectations.
Surpassing targets set, more than 95,000 children took part in Dragon Sport last year alone and more than 1265 schools have signed up to the Wales-wide campaign.
Throwing their support behind the campaign are a long list of Dragon Sport heroes which features golden boy Gavin Henson, Britain’s most successful ever Paralympian Tanni Grey Thompson and Welsh striker Robert Earnshaw.
Tanni – mother of toddler Carys, says she believes the site will be invaluable:
"Dragon Sport is such a success story. It’s making fantastic progress and I think it’s because the focus is on fun. I’m sure parents and teachers will make good use of the ideas and advice on offer – particular the rainy day suggestions during our terrible British summer!"
