ace_home_bannerWales’s Sports Minister Alun Pugh has applauded a Cardiff company which is helping to place Wales at the cutting edge of élite sport.

ACE Feet in Motion has agreed to an in-kind sponsorship deal worth more than £18,000 with the Sports Council for Wales. The deal will provide elite athletes with a first class podiatry service which will complement the recent appointment of a sports medicine doctor and physiotherapy coordinator.

Now sports stars that receive lottery funding from the Sports Council’s Élite Cymru scheme have access to revolutionary technology, expert podiatrists and orthotics.

Alun Pugh explains:

"This type of support is vital to our athletes who aim to excel at the very highest levels. Today’s gold medal is tomorrow’s bronze – Wales must ensure it maintains its high standards of performance. To do that, we need to make sure that athletes have access to top expertise and technology."

Ace Feet in Motion’s Senior Podiatrist Andrew James explains, "Many people suffer from pain in their ankles, knees, hips and lower back, but not many realise that this can be caused by poor foot function."

Paralympic sprinters Lloyd Upstell and Stephen Herbert are just two of the athletes who have already taken advantage of the facility and are quick to praise the treatment they received:

Upstell won gold medals over the 100m and 200m at the Sydney Paralympics in 2000. Gunning to defend his titles in Athens in September, he explains:

"I’m in really good form which is down to hard training. I’m certain it’s also down to the support from ACE Feet in Motion which has been crucial in my preparation to qualify for Athens"

Élite Cymru Manager David Evans spells out the benefits of the deal:

"Ace has already worked with a number of our athletes and they have received a first class service. This sponsorship will be a huge boost to both able-bodied and disabled athletes on Élite Cymru, as the provision of computerised scanning and corrective insoles will help them to prevent injuries and enhance performance."

"Wales punches above its weight on the world’s sporting stage. We saw that at the Commonwealth Games when Wales returned home with 31 medals. But we must not rest on our laurels. ACE Feet in Motion is helping Welsh sport to remain at the cutting edge."
