ALUN PUGH LAUNCHES FAMILY FIGHT AGAINST OBESITY ON EVE OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES
14 Apr 2005
On the eve of International Day of Families, Wales’s Sports Minister Alun Pugh urged the people of Wales to get on board the fight against obesity at Gellifor Primary School in Denbighshire.
Mr Pugh attended a morning of sporting activity at the school and was joined by Mums and Dads who were exercising their way to health with the schoolchildren. The Minister explained how the health campaign must be taken on board by Welsh families:
"The best way parents can encourage their children to adopt a more healthy lifestyle is to lead by example. Getting active shouldn’t be a chore – there are loads of things you can do as a family that are fun as well as helping to keep you fit. For example, going for a swim or a bike ride together, taking the dog out, having a kickabout in the park or just making the most of our beautiful countryside by going for a long walk."
"I can’t emphasise enough the huge difference that taking regular, moderate exercise can make to our health, fitness and general well-being. We all have a part to play in making Wales a healthier nation, and it is great to see all the parents here today who are doing their bit."
