HSBC Bank’s sponsorship has been matched pound-for-pound by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Sportsmatch scheme – the matched funding will be used to launch HSBC Mini Tennis Club Leagues throughout Wales.

"Sportsmatch’s matching of the new sponsorship is again great news since it will enable us to launch the HSBC Mini Tennis Club Leagues throughout Wales. These Leagues have been piloted very successfully in parts of Wales, but the new funding enables Tennis Wales to offer structured Mini Tennis team competition for children aged 8, 9 and 10 throughout Wales."

HSBC Bank’s public relations manager for Wales, John Lloyd-Jones added: "HSBC Bank are delighted to form this new partnership with Tennis Wales, and to be part of Welsh tennis’ flagship junior tournament. We are sure the event will continue to be a great success.

"HSBC Bank’s involvement in the Mini Tennis Club Leagues also fits with our strategy of supporting sport in local communities throughout Wales, and we look forward to working with Tennis Wales on developing this activity in all areas of the country."

The sponsorship covers the championships for 2007, 2008 and 2009. This year’s championships take place at the National Tennis Centre, Ocean Way, Cardiff, from Bank Holiday Monday, August 27th, starting at 9.30am.

Because of the record entry, there will be qualifying day on Sunday August 26th.

There are competitions for boys and girls at U12, U14, U16 and U18 level.

Spectators are welcome, and admission and parking are free. Up to 60 matches a day will take place on the indoor and outdoor courts.

The first championships were held in Cardiff in 1927 and were restricted to a U18 event for boys.
