BREWERTON RUES SOLHEIM MISTAKES
14 Sep 2007
Wales' Becky Brewerton lost her first Solheim Cup Foursome match by 2 and 1 at a wet Halmstad in Sweden.
Brewerton and partner Laura Davies were all square with America's Juli Inkster and Paula Creamer at the 16th hole.
But Davies sent her shot into water and Brewerton's 17th tee-shot landed among the trees.
"We gave it a good go," Brewerton said. "If we could have got our noses in front around the turn I think it might have been different."
The European pairing found themselves trailing for most of the opening nine holes, finishing two shots behind.
But they pulled it back to all-square at the 12th and held out until three holes before the end.
"We were two down early on and we didn't really feel that we'd done anything wrong. We always felt that we had been in the match despite being down," said Brewerton.
"When we got back to all-square that was our chance and if we could've got one in front I'm sure it would be different, but it wasn't meant to be.
"It was disappointing for us to hit a couple of bad shots at the end, but the (weather) conditions wear you down. I think we were just unfortunate.
"We definitely had the toughest pairing and the scoring in our match was good considering the conditions.
"It was gutting to lose and we tried our guts out and kept going, but it wasn't quite enough in the end."
