THOMAS SPEEDS TO TEAM PURSUIT GOLD
10 Dec 2007
Welsh cycling star Geraint Thomas added another gold to his burgeoning medal collection as the men's Team Pursuit quarted sped to glory at the World Track Cup in Beijing.
Thomas, Paul Manning, Edward Clancy and Stephen Cummings matched last week's achievement of winning in Sydney, beating New Zealand to the top spot on the podium.
The quartet started fastest, with an opening kilometre of one minute four seconds, 0.20 seconds ahead of the Kiwis.
The New Zealanders converted that defiicit into a 0.20secs advantage on the second kilometre, but the British team turned up the pace on the third kilometre and then coasted in on the final one for a winning time of 4:04.659.
The event is one of the most important on this year's calendar as it gives the competing teams a chance to race on the Velodrome to be used for the 2008 Olympic Games.
