The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (FDSW) is a pan disability organisation which aims to promote and develop opportunities for people to participate in sport and physical activity.
The Federation comprises of National Disability Sports Organisations (NDOs and) sports specific groups. Local Authorities in Wales are represented on its Executive as are the Sports Council for Wales.
FDSW contributes toward the aims of the Welsh Assembly Government’s sports and physical activity strategy ‘Climbing Higher’ and the Health Challenge Wales programme by focusing the majority of its efforts through the following national programmes:
- The Disability Sport Wales Community programme is a joint initiative between FDSW, the Sports Council for Wales and the Local Authorities. It is aimed at developing quality- led community based sporting and physical activity opportunities for people throughout Wales.
- The Disability Sport Wales Academy programme which supports the development of talented emerging athletes to ensure that they reach their full potential in sport.
- A National Performance programme that supports elite disabled performers.
- An Education and Training Service to support the development of disability sport within Wales.
FDSW ensures that its programmes are fully inclusive, offering individuals the opportunity to achieve a full and active role within their sporting communities, whilst at the same time providing a structured ‘pathway’ through which talented performers can achieve their full potential.
