Jamie Baulch Presents a Sportsmatch AwardCoca Cola is set to add fizz to a major sporting event this summer. It is the main sponsor of the annual Sportsmatch Cymru awards which recognises the achievements of commercial partnerships between sporting organisations and businesses.

The glittering awards ceremony will be held at the lavish Macdonald Holland House in Cardiff on Friday 1 July.

Coca Cola Enterprises (Wales and West Region) has long been a supporter of the awards that acknowledge the efforts of sporting organisations and commercial businesses in the development of grassroots sport.

Launched in 1992, Sportsmatch Cymru is the Welsh Assembly Government’s ‘£ for £’ business incentive scheme. Managed by the Sports Council for Wales, it is designed to encourage increased commercial sponsorship of grassroots sport.

To date, the scheme has benefited over 1,300 sports projects across Wales, resulting in a massive £7.5 million being pumped into the heart of Welsh communities by the scheme and its commercial partners.

Coca Cola is a valuable contributor to Welsh sport and has provided a much-needed cash injection into a substantial number of projects over the years.

Sportsmatch Cymru Chairman Lynn Davies MBE said: "We’re delighted that Coca-Cola is once again sponsoring the Sportsmatch Cymru Awards. The programme has a major impact on the development of grassroots sport across Wales so it’s vital that we recognise these partnerships.

"Businesses in Wales play a huge part in sporting success of our nation and we can only continue to excel if we invest in tomorrow’s champions now. The scheme encourages youngsters to get active and is contributing to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Health Challenge Wales campaign.

"Sports sponsorship offers businesses the opportunity to achieve commercial marketing objectives by raising brand awareness and increasing customer loyalty. It also allows them to fulfil social responsibilities, which is fast becoming a key objective for all companies."

Gerry Stacey, regional director of Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd (CCE) (Wales & West Region), said: "Coca-Cola is one of the most widely recognised brands in the world. But we are also a local company. Our philosophy at Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd (CCE) is to think globally and act locally, which is exactly what we do here in Wales with the sponsorship of the Sportsmatch Cymru awards. We are a regional business, which features an international brand and the challenge for us is to communicate our local roots to the community in which we belong."

Four awards will be presented on Friday 1 July:
