The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has joined forces with the Sports Council for Wales to kick start its campaign to get more women active in the quest for a healthier heart.

This week the BHF – the nation’s heart charity – is calling on the people of Wales to join the fight against heart disease and support them during its Help a Heart Week (4-12 June). With a focus on women, the campaign is pushing to raise funds for research which could save the lives of mothers, wives, daughters and sisters everywhere.

The annual fundraising campaign will remind us all that heart disease does not discriminate between men and women. The reality is this:

· Heart and circulatory disease will kill over 2400 women during Help a Heart Week

· One in three women are killed by heart and circulatory disease

· Coronary heart disease claims the lives of four times more women than breast cancer

· Nearly 1.2 million women in the UK are living with the daily burden of heart disease
