WELSH DRAGON LURES ENGLAND ACE

10 Jun 2006

Dragon Sport coordinator, Gareth Govier said: "We are really grateful to Simon for giving up his time to join us here today. From the expressions on the children’s faces today, you can tell that they think that he is a fantastic role model - not only for cricket but for sport in general."

The Sports Council for Wales Chief Executive, Dr Huw Jones can think of no better Ambassador: "Simon’s achievements both on and off the cricket field should be an inspiration to us all. His unyielding contribution and dedication to his sport has made him into the exemplary role model that he is and we are proud to welcome him as an ambassador to the Dragon Sport scheme.

"The initiative is providing essential sporting opportunities to young people which is one of the key aims of Climbing Higher – the sport and physical activity strategy which was launched last year by Wales' Sports Minister Alun Pugh."

The Welsh Assembly Government has recently launched Health Challenge Wales - a new national focus to secure greater ownership, commitment and action for better health, as part of a co-ordinated and sustained effort to improve levels of health in Wales.
