4 Sep 2007

Tennis WalesThe Junior Welsh National Tennis Championships attracted a record entry of 244 players – and no rain, for the first time in eight years.

The HSBC Bank-sponsored tournament, held at the National Tennis Centre in Cardiff, marked the 80th anniversary of the championships.

Tournament organiser Paul Pritchard of Tennis Wales, said: "For the first time in eight years, the weather was kind to us for the entire week, with over 350 matches played by 244 players – a record number.

"This was our 80th anniversary. In 1927 we only had an 18-and-under boys singles event and now we cater for boys and girls from 12-and-under to 18-and-under in singles and doubles.
