Rhodri Glyn Thomas, the Minister responsible for sport said:

"Just under a year since it began, we already have over half the secondary schools in Wales taking part in the 5x60 programme. 5x60 builds upon the Dragon Sport programme for primary school children and is aimed at getting teenagers involved in sport and physical activity.

"Getting more teenagers to take more exercise is a key aim for this government as they will hopefully carry that habit into later life and be healthier adults as a result. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the people involved in 5x60 first-hand."

The 5x60 programme has been introduced to continue the momentum started by the Sports Council for Wales’ Dragon Sport scheme - the highly acclaimed lottery funded programme which facilitates the delivery of extra-curricular sport and physical activity in primary schools across the length and breadth of Wales.

Its latest crop of celebrity ambassadors include former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable and his new band Killing for Company, skateboard pro Matt Pritchard, S4C TV Presenter, Alex Jones and Paralympic athlete Nathan Stephens have each come on board to throw their weight behind the Welsh Assembly Government’s 5x60 scheme.
