Baseball Participation

% Adult Participation (aged 15+):

Whilst participation rates have fluctuated slightly during the 1990’s, it is clear that participation is relatively low; the latest survey result would suggest there are around 5,000 regular adult players.

Baseball participation is highest in Metropolitan Wales reflecting its long tradition in Cardiff and Newport. When asked how many times they had played baseball in the past 4 weeks, the mean was between 4 and 5 times. The figure was higher in Metropolitan Wales and much lower in the Valleys. Players in social class D played nearly twice as often as the mean.

Profile of Baseball Players

Baseball players are around twice as likely to be male as female. Participation is relatively evenly spread amongst the social classes. Around three quarters of participants are in the 15-24 age group.
