Table Tennis Participation

Table tennis participation has fallen over the last decade. However, whilst female participation has remained fairly static in this period, male participation has shown a significant decline.

Table tennis participation is fairly evenly spread across Wales. The highest participation rates are in Gwynedd, Denbighshire and Powys. When asked how many times they had played table tennis in the past 4 weeks, the mean was between 4 and 5 times.

Profile of Table Tennis Players

Table tennis players are around twice as likely to be men as women. Participation is spread fairly evenly across the social classes, although there are fewer participants from social groups D and E. Around half the number of participants are in the 15 to 34 age group.

Provision for Table Tennis

The Welsh Institute of Sport (WIS) is used for national training and competition. WIS is a British Olympic Association accredited training centre for table tennis.
